Unit 2: Research, Statistics and Testing

We are now in Unit 2 of phycology! In this unit we talked about the different research, statistics and testing that psychologists use such as:

  • Case Studies
Colorado State University has a great website that examines case studies more in-depth.
  • The Survey

This method of asking questions is the cheapest, fastest and most common way to run an experiment.
  • Naturalistic Observation
this type of descriptive research is all about observing and not manipulating the environment.

Other interesting things we talked about where the two different types of experimental methods there is the blind study where a subject is unaware of who is the experimental group (the ones being tested)and the control group (the ones who are the effect). The double-blind study is one in which the experimenter and the subjects are both unaware of which group (experimental group or control) they are a part of. Such as the one The University of Canterbury did in this video. I really like this video because the professor mentions giving the control group a placebo, or a fake treatment. Which can lead to the control group experiencing the placebo effect, where they believe that the fake treatment is actually helping them.
